The company

With a resident population of over 410,000, the city of Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland. Organization and IT is a service division of the Finance Department and the City of Zurich’s IT competence center. It is responsible for basic IT services and cross-departmental IT projects.

An important criterion for our new Webshop 2.0 was not only the time and cost savings, but also the satisfaction of our employees thanks to the intuitive operation. The full potential of a procurement solution can only be exploited if people enjoy using it.

Werner Schwendener,

Team Leader SAP Logistics, Organization and IT

About the project

As one of the largest public employers in Switzerland, the City of Zurich wanted to optimize its internal procurement as part of the digitalization and automation of its entire procurement processes. These tasks were to be carried out as carefully as possible in line with the City of Zurich’s procurement mission statement. As both the goods and services to be procured and the entirety of the stakeholder groups with many service departments are heterogeneous, the focus had to be on transparency and user-friendliness in addition to time and cost efficiency. An omnichannel e-commerce solution was introduced with the City of Zurich’s Webshop 2.0 in order to optimize demand planning accordingly, taking into account all of the aforementioned requirements and to optimize the purchasing experience for all city employees.
