VEKA AG starts mobile application for SAPUI5-based order optimisation

With the support of the SAP specialists from UNIORG, the medium-sized window manufacturer VEKA has successfully implemented its first application with the new front-end technology SAPUI5 which is compatible for desktops as well as for mobile devices.

This project was primarily about the replacement of a now obsolete, no longer serviceable internal solution of the US group VEKA Inc. It was to be replaced by an advanced solution that could be seamlessly integrated into the existing SAP system landscape, workable for the desktop browser as well as tablets.

Because VEKA had already for a few years operated its customer portal on the SAP NetWeaver Application Server (version 7.31), all necessary prerequisites were in place for the operation of SAPUI5 and SAP Gateway technology as an interface for data exchange between front- and back-end. Ultimately the add-ons could be imported with ease.

Better capacity planning, higher delivery performance

“Thanks to the SAPUI5 simulation mock-ups, we got initial detailed visual impressions already in the planning phase. This was a huge advantage in terms of acceptance of the future application”, says VEKA project leader Karl Dietrich Wellsow. “The aim of this project is that we will be able in future to far better plan our production capacities than before and thus ensure automatic resupply to customers on the basis of consumption and stock. At the same time we are optimising transport capacities and costs and increasing delivery performance. With SAPUI5 we have chosen a user interface technology that allows us, using one of SAP’s serviced technologies, to develop browser-based applications in future for mobile and non-mobile devices without additional costs.”
